Creation of the Buddha image

The portrait was created 1996, around the 50. Jubilee of King Bhumibol Adulyadej (Rama IX.) in honor. It was engraved into the rock using modern laser technology and filled with gold leaf, to accentuate the contours. The Buddha sits in the classical "Mara-Vijaya" position, that symbolizes his enlightenment.

The project was launched in collaboration with Buddhist monks and is now a symbol of respect and veneration, both towards the king and Buddhism.
